Description:

This book constitutes reminiscences of Barbara Reynolds (1915-1990), an American peace activist, written by her daughter, Jessica Reynolds Renshaw. Jessica writes about her mother from two points of view: Part 1 is about Barbara’s public life, and Part 2 is about her personal life. Jessica looks back at Barbara’s life after her husband, Dr. Earle L. Reynolds, was dispatched to the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission in Hiroshima, to research the effects of radiation on children in 1951. Jessica gives a full account of her mother’s activism, such as the Reynolds’ voyages by yacht to the U.S. and U.S.S.R to protest against nuclear testing, the world trips twice with hibakusha, atomic bomb survivors, and the establishment of the World Friendship Center in Hiroshima.
