Description:

Eileen Welsome, a reporter for Albuquerque Tribune, wrote articles about “The plutonium experiment” conducted in the United States from 1945 to 1947. She revealed how 18 people were injected with plutonium during the two years, as part of the Manhattan Project. The Project aimed at investigating how plutonium, used in atomic bombs, acts on human bodies. Informed consent was not obtained from any of the test subjects; in fact, they were not even provided with adequate information regarding the experiment. Welsome won the Pulitzer Prize for her articles on this topic. ALBUQUERQUE TRIBUNE 1993 November 15; pp. 1-48.
